Stratum is a group exhibition by Melbourne artists Betra Fraval, Bec Delange, Will Heathcote, and Ben Taranto.
The works in Stratum prompt thought around the geologic and material as being partners in creativity, becoming storytelling matter that acts as both a marker for time / action, and as a metaphor that allows us to reflect on how we humans relate to and live on the earth.
The concept of stratum is explored through the work of four artists working in sculpture, painting and installation based practices. In this exhibition, the artists are working within the context of the Anthropocene - the present geological age of human-driven climate and environment change. They break down the binary of living and non-living and create a conversation between action and material, and the physical and non-physical.
